The 19th of August is World Orangutan Day! All three species of orangutan are classified as ‘endangered’ or ‘critically endangered’ in SE Asia. Their main threat is palm oil deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia


  • They are «gardeners» of the forest – critical for seed dispersal in ecosystems.
  • Their slow reproductive rate makes populations extremely vulnerable.
  • Females give birth only once every 3-5 years.
  • They are highly intelligent, can use tools including using boats and pass these skills onto their children whom they raise for up to 10 years.

Each year we celebrate #WorldOrangutanDay and each year #orangutans edge closer #extinction. Enough greenwashing lies that #palmoil can be «sustainable»! We #Boycottpalmoil #Boycott4Wildlife #WorldOrangutanDay
